2.8 miles steady

Ran home from work in 19:32 for 2.77 miles, average pace 7:03/mile, HR 146. Foot hadn't been improving so I had considered taking a couple of days off, but it seemed slightly better during the course of the day so I thought I'd try to persevere until the weekend.

Tuesday 29 January 2013

2.8 miles steady

Ran home from work in 19:36 for 2.78 miles, average pace 7:03/mile, HR 147. Had heavy legs and thought I had probably been overdoing it.

HR zones: 3.5%, 13.4%, 83.2%, 0%, 0%

Monday 28 January 2013

2.8 miles moderate, 2.5 miles slow

Ran home from work in an encouraging 18:09 for 2.77 miles, average pace 6:32/mile, HR 156. Still not running with a normal footstrike, but not too far off the times I was routinely running before I got injured. Managed to get inside a 6-minute pace for the first time since December.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 6:52 (143), 6:37 (161), 5:59 (169)
HR zones: 3.0%, 6.2%, 43.3%, 47.4%, 0%

In the evening I ran the usual easy loop of Manse Road and Canniesburn Toll from Bearsden Asda. Still felt like more effort than it should have been. 2.48 miles in 19:44, average pace 7:58/mile, HR 145.

Saturday 26 January 2013

7.3 miles slow

Went out in the morning for a longer run with Natasha. Wore the Skechers Resistance Runners although they turned out not to be any easier to run in than the Lunarglide. I was prepared to run a shorter route and head back home on my own but by Kelvinbridge I thought I'd probably be able to manage the whole thing. We ran along Great Western Road, down Crow Road and through Victoria Park, going through a couple of tunnels under the Expressway and Balshagray Avenue before heading along Balshagray Place, through a small park and onto Broomhill Drive, then along Dumbarton Road and home via Kelvin Way, Bank Street and North Woodside Road. 7.31 miles in 1:01:02, average pace 8:21/mile, HR 144. Heart rate looks too high for that pace but that might have been partly on account of the shoes.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 8:26 (134), 8:12 (141), 7:55 (145), 8:19 (146), 8:34 (146), 8:23 (150), 8:27 (148), 8:32 (148)
HR zones: 1.1%, 13.2%, 85.7%, 0%, 0%

Friday 25 January 2013

2.8 miles steady

Ran home from work in 18:56 for 2.77 miles, average pace 6:50/mile, HR 157. Absent-mindedly wore a heavier jacket to work so had more weight to carry back home, but I had been intending to take it a bit easier anyway.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 7:05 (149), 6:58 (160), 6:21 (165)
HR zones: 3.0%, 2.2%, 41.5%, 53.3%, 0%

Thursday 24 January 2013

2.8 miles moderate

Ran home from work in 18:19 for 2.77 miles, average pace 6:36/mile, HR 158. This was exactly the same time as I ran on Christmas Eve. Thought I might just about have been able to run in the Masters' Relay on Sunday after all, although not as part of a competitive team or without risking further injury.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 6:55 (144), 6:38 (163), 6:10 (170)
HR zones: 3.2%, 5.3%, 27.2%, 64.3%, 0%

Wednesday 23 January 2013

4.2 miles steady

Decided to run the longer route home, via Lock 27, Anniesland Cross and North Woodside Road, partly so I could take it a bit easier and not feel compelled to improve on my times over the normal route. 4.23 miles in 30:03, average pace 7:07/mile, HR 155.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 7:19 (139), 7:00 (156), 7:09 (161), 6:55 (163), 7:20 (162)
HR zones: 2.1%, 7.5%, 44.9%, 45.5%, 0%

Tuesday 22 January 2013

2.8 miles moderate

Ran home from work in 18:38 for 2.77 miles, average pace 6:44/mile, HR 155. Seemed to have recovered reasonably well from possibly overdoing it yesterday, although it took a lot of effort in the last mile to improve on yesterday's time at all.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 7:06 (142), 6:46 (159), 6:13 (169)
HR zones: 2.1%, 8.1%, 48.0%, 41.7%, 0%

Monday 21 January 2013

2.8 miles moderate, 2.5 miles slow

Ran home from work in 18:40 for 2.77 miles, average pace 6:45/mile, HR 160. Surprised to be able to knock another minute off my time so soon.
Pace splits (ave. HR): 7:02 (146), 6:45 (166), 6:24 (171)
HR zones: 2.4%, 4.5%, 32.9%, 60.2%, 0%

In the evening I felt just about OK to attempt the usual loop of Manse Road and Canniesburn Toll from Bearsden Asda, although it turned out to be more painful than my earlier run and pretty slow for the effort involved. 2.49 miles in 20:02, average pace 8:03/mile, HR 156.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 8:36 (151), 7:36 (158), 7:53 (161)
HR zones: 2.1%, 2.4%, 66.3%, 29.2%, 0%

Sunday 20 January 2013

3.4 miles slow

Went out in the morning for an easy loop of Shakespeare Street and Napiershall Street with Natasha. The slope of the pavement along Great Western Road was towards my injured foot, putting more weight on it, so I tried to run on the road where I could. 3.36 miles in 28:15, average pace 8:25/mile, HR 142.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 8:36 (137), 8:16 (146), 8:19 (143), 8:33 (147)
HR zones: 2.6%, 19.6%, 77.8%, 0%, 0%
Weekly total: 14 miles

Friday 18 January 2013

2.8 miles steady

Ran home in 19:45 for 2.77 miles, average pace 7:08/mile, HR 160. Pleased to knock another minute off although it was harder work once again. Clearly not making the injured foot any worse by running on it.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 7:19 (149), 7:09 (166), 6:51 (169)
HR zones: 1.9%, 3.3%, 29.4%, 65.4%, 0%

Thursday 17 January 2013

2.8 miles easy

Ran home from work in 20:47 for 2.77 miles, average pace 7:30/mile, HR 155. Significantly faster than yesterday although it took more effort.

HR zones: 3.0%, 4.4%, 49.6%, 43.0%, 0%

Wednesday 16 January 2013

2.8 miles slow

Ran home from work, with some difficulty, in 22:43 for 2.78 miles, average pace 8:10/mile, HR 146. Wore the Lunarglide Shield.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 8:24 (136), 8:02 (151), 8:02 (154)
HR zones: 3.1%, 16.4%, 78.0%, 2.5%, 0%

Tuesday 15 January 2013

2.5 miles slow

After two weeks of inactivity I felt like I had progressed to limping mostly to avoid pain rather than on account of pain. All the symptoms suggested a stress fracture but I had never had any trouble driving, and the initial swelling in my forefoot had hardly been noticeable with only a small amount of bruising around the toes. I thought I would have a go at a short loop of Queen Margaret Drive and North Woodside Road and was prepared to throw in the towel if it wasn't going well. Wore the Lunarglide Shield as my most cushioned normal running shoes. As it turned out I was just about able to run on the outside of my foot and managed to hobble round in 21:43 for 2.50 miles, average pace 8:41/mile, HR 143. Didn't feel afterwards as if I'd made the injury any worse.

Pace splits (ave. HR): 8:56 (137), 8:34 (147), 8:24 (150)
HR zones: 2.7%, 23.9%, 73.1%, 0.3%, 0%
